I am a new member recently diagnosed with stage IIIA TC. I am currently going through chemo 4xEP ( in recovery of round 3 currently ) and due to the teratoma in my pathology I understand it is highly likely I will require an RPLND afterwards.I live in Houston and wanted to get some information on surgeons here. I want an experienced surgeon to perform this and would prefer to have it done here at MD Anderson if possible. Consulted with my urologist and he said he was going to refer me to MD Anderson.
He made some phone calls to find the best RPLND surgeon there and provided me with the name of Dr. Louis Pisters at MD Anderson. Haven't had a chance to consult with Dr. Pisters yet but we are planning to as soon as we can get in.Does anyone have any experience or information on Dr.
Louis Pister at MD Anderson? I have heard of Dr. Pisters, but we never had to see anyone in Urology due to J not being a candidate for an RPLND. When surgery was discussed it was said that it would be happening there.
I personally would see no reason to add extra travel and money into the equation when you are receiving treatment at the top cancer hospital. The way MDA is split the Onocologist would be in Genitourinary and the RPLND would be done by surgical Urology. I agree that it would be implied that the surgery would not take place there.hmmm. I am very interested in this as well, I notice no one has commented on this post in quite a while. Anyone out there know anything about the specialists at MD Anderson?Based on the recommendation of my urologist in the The Woodlands I ended up going with Dr. Louis Pisters at MD Anderson. Everyone I spoke with at MD Anderson thought Dr.
Pister's was an excellent surgeon. He has done 'tons' (his words) of RPLNDs and even flies to Greece to perform this surgery there on occasion.Actually the jury is still out on how happy I am with Dr. A recent CT-scan shows a couple of enlarged lymph nodes in my abdomen. Not sure if these are just a disturbance from the RPLND surgery and will clear up or if he missed something. Have an upcoming scan of my abdomen scheduled ( the other was of the neck and chest. They noticed something in the upper abdomen ) and will get my answers from Pister's on 12-19.Will let you know more as I learn more about my current situation and why I have enlarged lymph nodes in my abdomen after my RPLND. Update: MD Anderson and Dr.
PistersNow that I am more informed I can provide a more accurate opinion on Dr. Louis Pisters at MD Anderson. I needed RPLND surgery and Dr. Pisters was recommended. Everyone I spoke to at MD Anderson said Dr.

Pisters is an excellent surgeon. Now that I have the results of my last CT-scan I have to say he did an excellent job. I had 3 very large masses of teratoma in my abdomen. It took him 10 hours to remove it along with 17 lymph nodes. The last scan I had showed my abdomen was all clear. Just an elarged retrocrural lymph node (1.8 cm now).

I am being referred to a chest surgeon for that removal. Pisters has quite a bit of experience with this procedure and testis cancer as well. My wife asked if he had much experience with GTS ( Growing Teratoma Syndrome ). He said he has and he has even written a paper on it.While I did have a few complications after surgery none of them can be blamed on Dr. Personally I would highly recommend him for anyone needing an RPLND at MD Anderson.
